Top 5 Decluttering Tips For Clothes

Take these five tips on your next decluttering space to simplify your cleaning process and create a living space you enjoy being in. Some of the things you might need to assist in your decluttering process are:

Trash Bags to fill with clothes you want to resell, donate or lose tags that need to be trashed.

Storage Bins to organize your space clearly. Storage bins are also a great option to label clothes you would like to donate with a permanent donation bin.

Swifter/Broom to clean your space once everything is out. Creating a sparkling space makes all the difference.

Cloth hangers that match throughout your whole closet space can help make the aesthetic clean closet come together.

Label maker Or pre made labels to organize clothes to prevent clutter once your space is clean.

Tip #1: Take Everything Out

The first tip is to take everything out your closet. Yes, everything! You will be shocked with how much stuff is shoved in the back of your closet or have fallen on the floor you have been forgotten about. The mess might get worse before it gets better. As you are taking items off the rack or out of your dresser drawers create three piles.

The first pile will be for clothes you absolutely know you are not going to keep. These might be clothes that fit too small or too big. Clothes that are out of season or you did not wear(or won’t anymore). The second pile will be clothes you are thinking about keeping or no longer keeping. These are clothes that you might need to try on. Big suggestion is to wait till you have separated all of your clothes to try them on again. This way you do not lose momentum and leave a GIANT mess. Lastly, the third pile is for clothes you plan on keeping. Now the rest of the clothes will need to go to donation bag or resell space.

Tip #2: Separate Clothes By Season

Organizing your clothes by season will help you to see your options more clearly than having to dig in all the different parts or your closet. This way it will create a clear vision to see the clothes you want to be wearing in this season without creating a giant mess. Clothes that are for the current season you are in will be closer to the entrance of your closet while the other seasons clothes will be more towards the back. For example, if it is the middle of winter you know you will not need those summer dresses to be clearly available in the front. Plan to put those dresses to the back of the closet. Separate clothes from winter wear, summer wear, fall colors and spring colors. In the correct season you will know exactly where to find your clothes without having to dig deep in your closet. The purpose here is to create less of a mess and dress for success ;).

Tip #3: Organize By Color

This is THE BEST way to organize your closet. This way of organizing your closet by color coordination helps visually to see items in order to find the right color shirt for the right color pants. Organizing your space by color also gives aesthetic pleasure to your closet. Organizing by color makes folding and hanging fresh washed clothes easy and less likely to create a cluttered space in the future.

To brighten up your closet space, the colors will be organized starting from the entrance of your closet to be brighter colors to progress to darker colors. Often start with white, then on to your next color, light pinks, neutrals, light blues and progress to the darker colored items in your wardrobe.

Tip#4: Cloth Hanger Hack

This is the most important tip!!!!! One of the most easy ways to DECLUTTER your clothes over time is by the position of your clothes hooks. Instead of hanging the hooks the correct way, hang then from the inside. As you carry on and wear your clothes day by day. Place your clean wore clothes back on the clothes rack the correct way on the clothes hangers. Over the next month or so you will see the clothes that you did not use because of position of the clothes hooks. Genius, right? This very simple decluttering tips for clothes will make it simple the next time you clean out your clothes. You will be amazing with how many clothes you thought you were going to wear and did not even touch.

Tip#5: Set A Reminder

Set a reminder to declutter once again. Browse through your clothes rack to look for any clothes with the incorrect position of clothes hooks. Obviously you did not wear these clothes with the inside clothes hooks. So there is no point in keeping them. Depending on how often you go through your closet you can determine if you should donate those items you didn’t wear or if you would like to reconsider wearing them soon. But if you didn’t wear any sweaters in the summer that’s okay(I would’t, at least not here in Texas;). Go through the correct season in your wardrobe and take a look at the end of that season to make sure you had an actual chance to wear your clothes.

Set a reminder on your phone to go through your clothes again in about 4 months from the last time you went through them. A good rule of thumb is to go through your clothes about four times a year because there are four seasons in a year. This is at a minimum. If you choose to go through your clothes once a month. More power to you. The less the better!
