Closet Organization Hacks:

1. Hanger Placement

Have you ever heard of the hanger trick for decluttering? It is not the most commonly talked about hack, but it will be a great result with little effort. If you’re anything like me, clothes are something I love to shop and used to create the habit of getting a shirt or two if there was a sale… even though I didn’t even need it. With this thought in mind, my closet quickly would seem like I am running out of space. In reality, after years of doing this I needed to find a system of how to organize my closet with little effort over time. Then I found this closet organization hack!!

Simply, place all your clothes on your hanger with the hook on the INSIDE. Once all of your clothes are up. Go about your days as you do. On laundry day and you are ready to place your worn clothes back in your closet, hang your clothes with the hook on the OUTSIDE(normal way). THIS will ensure you see over time the clothes you wear and most importantly the clothes you don’t wear.

2. Donation Bin Hack

Okay, this requires very little action but is ESSENTIAL to having order in your closet. Simply having a donation box. If you don’t have a box or aesthetic bin that is just fine too. Hack grab a plastic sack. Having an opportunity to create more space without making a mess and creating chaos will help clear the mind when you want to organize your space the right way.

Have a designated space for clothes you want to get rid of as you go through day-to-day. Because on random days you might say, “I have not worn this in such a long time,” or “This is not my style anymore.” When these days come you want to have a place ready to place unwanted items then going back to the cycle of “I’ll clean out my closet later.” We all know later is going to be MUCH later!!

3. Organize By Color

Creating a closet of order by color is probably the most common and useful closet organization hack. This makes the aesthetic pieces of your closet come together. Style your clothes on the rack from light to dark. Group all the white shirts together, grey, light pinks, and so on and so on. Doing so will also allow for a peaceful experience when trying to find the right shirt to match with your pants.

4. Organize By Season & Length

Categorize all of your clothing by season. Best practices are short-sleeved and long-sleeved sections. Depending on your style of wardrobe you can break it down even better. For example, the section’s clothes can be categorized even further by graphic tees, collars, blouses, button up shirts, jerseys, sweaters, etc. Of course within these sections should still be organized in order by color.

A word of advice, if you only have a couple of items in a specific section just combine it with another section with its correct color pattern to still fit in the flow of order.

5. Easy accessible to frequently used items

Keep items that you use every day or almost every day accessible in the most convenient way. Once your closet is organized you want to keep it that way. You should always move to the front of your closet clothes for the season you are currently in. For example, if you wear a belt every day, placing your “belt bin” on the lower shelf would be the most convenient location.

List of everyday items: Belts, shirts, pants, etc.

List of occasional items: Scarfs(depending on the season), snow boots, high heels, statement outfits, purses, etc.

6. Bright up the space with lights
