How to get motivated to clean when you simply just don’t want to clean at all? I will show you EXACTLY how to be motivated to get up and have your home be spotless.

how to be motivated to clean

If you are anything like me I would much rather be curled up on the couch watching a movie, most likely Spiderman, than cleaning my house. How on earth do people who HATE cleaning get motivated to clean?

This secret has worked for me and my household. I wish I had learned this earlier on to avoid hours of cleaning and avoid all the stress it put me through.

Before learning these secrets my family would be the ones to shove all of the mess in a closet, out of sight before company arrived. Well, say no more to the stress as I teach you in this post the BEST tips on how to get motivated to clean when you have no motivation at all.

Why do I struggle to clean my house?

Let me guess, you’re reading this because you have no motivation to clean house? It can be a real struggle to clean the house when you are too tired, busy, or overwhelmed by the whole mess. You’re not alone. So many people are struggling with you. One of the best kept secrets about managing your home is to treat it like a business. That is right, you’re the CEO of your house. Since you want to keep your house in business and functioning well, along comes the responsibilities that go with it like cleaning.

One big reason why you might be struggling to keep your house clean is due to incomplete tasks. Complete one task at a time. I would always catch myself half way cleaning something because I would want to start cleaning something else instead. It takes the discipline to complete one task at a time and then move on to the next one.

Another BIG tip is to put things back right after you use them. If you don’t put things back then it creates a bigger mess to clean.

You are more than likely to struggle because you don’t have a cleaning rhythm established in your home. Your home can look nice all the time by spending 1 hour or less a day on cleaning with a weekly cleaning schedule.

1.Be entertained

How to get motivated to clean your house does not have to be BORING. This is the perfect time to rank up the music and jam out as you sweep, mop, and clean anything in your home. Another great way to be entertained is to call a friend, watch your favorite show, listen to a podcast, audiobook, etc. It is always a good idea to get motivated by making it a little more fun.

2. Change your mindset.

Often people can be in a bad mood just about the idea of cleaning. The power of your thoughts is so important when it comes to cleaning and anything in life.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. –Romans 12:2.

Cleaning is part of life we all should do it because living in a clean environment helps us stay focused and be good stewards of the things we have. This is a great opportunity to practice changing your mindset from negativity to positivity, alongside gratitude. How do I do that?

Instead of thinking, “Oh look at this huge mess it is going to take me forever.” Think, “Okay, I know this might seem overwhelming but I’m going to set a timer for 20 minutes to work on this without any distractions then I will take a short break. ” Most of the time just getting started is all you need then you might realized you can knock out that task quickly. Also, it is a great moment to be grateful for the things you have as you pick them up.

3. Habits

Create good habits because motivation will only last so long. To be brutally honest, motivation does not last forever(sorry). This is why it is so important to be in the habit of cleaning everyday for a small amount of time then try to conquer all the tasks in one day that take up all of your time(and all of your our day off). Get yourself on a good weekly cleaning schedule that will help you run your house rather than your house run you.

4. Reward yourself

To reward yourself is a great way on how to motivate yourself to clean. For me, a delicious snack or coffee is a reward. If I know I have dark chocolate in the freezer(does anyone else like it this cold?) then I will not enjoy my delicious dessert till the task is complete. For bigger projects, like going through my declutter checklist, I will treat myself to a Starbucks drink once the task is complete.

5. Set timers

Setting timers is one of the best ways to learn how to be productive when cleaning. Set a timer for 20-30 minutes at a time to complete a task(s) then allow a short break if there is still more cleaning to get done. Rewarding yourself in small ways during these breaks can be a great way to accomplishing more cleaning and motivate you when you know you only have 20 minutes of cleaning!

6. Don’t do it all in one day

AGAIN, how to get motivated to clean should be done a little each day instead of all in one day. Instead of cleaning for one full day, you get an extra day back to your week for you to enjoy out and about or to relax at home.

7. Be without distractions

You will be surprised how much stuff you get done when you have fewer distractions. Put your phone on do not disturb for a short period put your head down and get to work.

8. Invite a friend

Okay, if you invite a friend over to help you clean…. don’t make them clean for you. Make this a multi-tasking event here, okay? Multiple times I have a friend who has come over and chatted with me as I fold my laundry. Truth is we don’t have to have it all together to have guest. Invite friends into your life won’t judge you for how your home looks but understands that you might still have things to get done. This is the best of both worlds. Woot woot!!

Why do I have no motivation to clean??

Being motivated to clean can be hard. Especially for a few reasons. One is you’re doing it all yourself. Two because you might be trying to do it all in one day.

If you think your house is perfect then let go of it! It won’t be perfect but it will be good for you and your family. Cleaning your home is the perfect time to pray over your home instead of complaining(I say this because I have been guilty here, sadly). Time to change your perspective and pray over your home.

“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”- Joshua 24:15

” A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass. A foolish child is a father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like the constant dripping of a leaky roof. Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry. Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life, but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die.” -Proverbs 19: 11-16

“Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.”- Colossians 3:18-2
