How to maximize small bedroom space

Maximizing space in a small bedroom can often times be a difficult task to complete. One of the most useful ways to start this process is by organizing a space is decluttering. A through clean out will significantly make the process easier when you have less things. Decluttering often(this should be done at a minimum of quarterly) will help you realize how much you actually do and do not use. Of course, having less things will make it easier to maximize space. However, it comes to a point when you no longer are in need to get rid of things but need to be more strategic about how to make a small room look bigger. This post will share all the hacks to create a simple space for a small bedroom.

The most important thing when creating a space is to not overdo it. Having less in a space can really help create a cleaner calming look to your bedroom. Having less in a space is not a downgrade by an upgrade. What do I mean by this? Having less things is to hold value and care for the materials you do have. It can be so easy to want to constantly change our rooms to be perfect. Getting the newest home decor items. Getting the most popular bed pillows. When really it will never be perfect. We can spend hours moving items. Changing the decor in the smallest of ways a hundred times. We will have temporary satisfaction on attempting to make our small spaces look beautiful. It is not bad to make our spaces this way. It is actually great that we want to take such great care for our space.

With this being said, make the most of your time and not just your space. Read that again.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33. In anything we are doing in life, let us seek the kingdom of God. I have had to do this myself when organizing my home. Yes, even in things that seem like simple decisions that I think I could do on my own, but asking my Heavenly Father for help has brought my home more peace than I could bring if I did it alone. I share this because my intentions have changed from trying to impress others by the look of my home to now wanting to glorifying God with all he has allowed me to steward. It really does not matter if I have the nicest things, it actually humbling and freeing to not have to impress others with the materials in the room (or home). The blessing comes from maximizing your space by allowing the presence of the Holy Spirit to fill the room. What does that look like? “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6. Prayer is the way to invite the Holy Spirit into the room.

What is the best way to layout a small bedroom?

This is the time to be creative. There is no best way, because every house is different. However, the layout can used for you and not against you. Utilizing corners, wall space, and window space(if possible), largely increase the appearance of your space. Below are the best tips to make your small space look bigger.

Use Simple Not Bulky Furniture. Furniture is best place to start. How to maximize small bedroom space can be with the furniture you put in it. Go for simpler furniture and downsizing. For example, choosing a bed frame that is simple and is without a footboard can open up the space in your room drastically.

Light Colors. Allow natural light to enter the room would be a the first choose to maximizing the space. We know not all homes have rooms with the perfect natural light. We must create it by using lighter color wall paint and by using neutral or white color furniture/decor.

Use Mirrors. Mirrors make a huge difference(that is the point right). Select a simple mirror decor to reflect your space and the light in the room for the space to appear larger.

Wall Light Fixtures. Clear your nightstand space as best you can. Smaller light fixtures, especially remote controlled wall fixtures. These can be easily placed on the wall above your nightstand or on the wall outside the bed frame.

Longer Curtains From the Ceiling

Making use of the vertical space in the room will make the space appear much larger than not using curtains at all. Utilize the wall space for the best outcomes for maximizing space in a small bedroom.

Less is more. Make it simple by having less decor. If you have too much going on in one tiny space it can quickly make the room overstimulating and far from warm and cozy.
