How to do Christmas as a Minimalist?
You might be thinking, “Christmas as a minimalist.??yeah, right!” The first things first. We need to to clear the air. What is your idea of minimalism? Minimalism is not about living with nothing (at least that is what I thought). It is actually meant to be more intentional with the items you possess. Did you know there are many different types of minimalist with this have a common mindset, but have different types of lifestyles. In the simplest of ways to express what being a minimalist is, it is to live simply with less so you can focus more on the things that matter to you most.
Fhewww! Glad we summed that up. Now back to Christmas.

Essentials to a Minimalist Christmas:
The first category that most often seems overwhelming when it comes to the Christmas Chaos is buying gifts. There are a few ideas to focus on to have minimalist Christmas gifts.
Christmas Gifts
Secret Santa. This is one of the best ways to organize minimalist Christmas Gifts. If you have not heard of how Secret Santa works. It is simple. Well before Christmas day comes along everyone who would like to participate needs to write their name on a piece of paper and place it in a bowl. Mix up the names and let everyone grab one name (that is not their’s). The name the person chooses will be the person they shop for. However, it is a Secret. On Christmas day, each person will open their ONE gift and try to guess who their Secret Santa is.
This idea is perfect to keep gifts at a minimum but to have gifts of great value and something that the person actually wants. Gift exchanges like this are one of the simplest ways to manage the holiday season. Instead of having to spend a lot of money buying gifts for every single person in the family. The quality of the gifts rises and becomes more intentional for a minimalist Christmas. Heck go all out and make that person feel so special it doesn’t just have to be one gift. You can create a basket of specifics the person would love to receive on Christmas morning.
Thoughtful gifts. Think about some of the best gifts you have received. Weren’t they absolutely incredible? What made them so special? Ask yourself these questions when forming the perfect thought gift for someone. Getting to know them is a big part of it. Relationships are everything. You want to know what they are needing or what will be the one thing that will fill them with so much joy!

Sometimes when we just buy a basic gift just because it is something to open it can lose its value because it is a much of junk. Think long-term gifts. Gifts that the person can use just about every day (or very often).
Minimalist Home
Prepare to create a minimalist home at Christmas is all about perspective. Christmas can be extremely overwhelming if you let it consume too much of your time. Simplify each aspect of Christmas that you love most. Further down we will discuss the aspect of the Christmas season in your home and outside the home. We will discuss more about Christmas tree decor, Christmas decorations and more from the home. Let’s start by getting the ideas out of your head.
Grab a piece of paper and write down every single thing you love about the Christmas season and the things you like to do this time of year (yes, this is going to be an extremely long list).

Once you have your list. Circle 10 things that would make Christmas great even if you do not get to everything on your list. Do you have your 10 things? Great! Now, pull out your calendar and mark it down on a date. You are more likely to complete something once you mark a date and even to be more specific set a time too. This is super practical. But we are all human and tend to get in a fuss when we end up shopping last minute. Sometimes if you don’t make an effort to mark it down on your calendar then then time tends to slip away. To keep everything running smoothly preparing a minimalist Christmas can be limited to 10(or less) non-negotiable dates.
Some examples of dates to set are baking cookies, going ice skating, following an advent calendar, Christmas Shopping, and Christmas Eve church service, and driving through the neighborhood to look at Christmas Lights.
Giving is a huge part of Christmas. What has been the most perfect gift you can give someone? How about the gift of salvation? That’s right salvation. Christmas is truly about about celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savor Jesus Christ. This part is SO Important. If you want the simplify the chaos of Christmas this year. This is Number #1: Turn your heart to Jesus. “For God so loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17. Christmas is all about celebrating the birth of Jesus.
In all the chaos of the world. It can be hard to lose focus on the true meaning of Christmas. It really can be simply celebrating Jesus by being thankful. Get connected at your local church this year as you receive the gift God has given you.

Minimalist Christmas Decorations
Your home will not need have to have all the Christmas things that ever exists to make it feel like Christmas!! Sometimes, when you have too much stuff… hate to say it but it doesn’t always look that good! Yeah you really read that… sorry if thats harsh. Anyway… keep reading!!
I am not here to put you down and I am definitely not the one who is the expert in home decor however… in your attempt to have a minimalist Christmas less is more benefits to your environment. Having less is better for your mental health. Going back to the list of what is most important to you can be a way to how to picture how your home is going to look. A minimalist Christmas will have not every door decorated in Christmas but will make the house flow well with similarly color tones through the home.
A simple living look can still be festive with a throw blanket, two Christmas pillows, and a candle to capture your senses. Some things are not as “essential” as you may think. Think multi-purpose for decorating things. Grab yourself a plain white cookie tray to use over multiple holidays.
Minimalist Christmas Decoration Essentials:
Pre-lite Garland
Pre-lite Christmas Tree
Holiday Candle Display-Pine Cones or mini Christmas trees (bathrooms, coffee tables/side table)
Simple Kitchen Decor- Cookie/Hot Coco Section
Again, Christmas is my favorite Holiday and I love to make it special in the home just like you probably do. Without it becoming chaos make it a mission to create beautiful arrangements in the sections of your home that are filled with the spirit of Christmas. Of course, you are not limited to just having the essentials, but as part of keeping a simplified Christmas season keep in mind some of your favorite spaces where you spend the most time and create beautiful space there!

What do you do with the unwanted stuff?
Think about a time when you opened up a gift and said, “Ohhh I love it.” But really knew you were never going to use it. There will always be something that someone does not want. So be prepared to donate to avoid the “I take care of that later thought.” Change your ways by having a donation bin ready to go! Literally, to go, get that stuff out of there!! Drop off donation stands are available in multiple spots around most towns.
